Comme des Garçons 2004SS “Abstract Excellence” Skirt

Rei Kawakubo challenged the essence of clothing through *“Abstract Excellence”* in the 2004 Spring/Summer season, by deconstructing and reconstructing a single skirt in 34 different ways.
The atypical form that does not follow the body's silhouette, the rough exposed cut-offs, and the outwardly exposed black line details show Kawakubo's unique experimental attitude.

This season was later highlighted at the 2017 special exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, 「Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between」, and was evaluated as a representative case that explored polarized concepts such as “absence/presence, design/non-design, fashion/anti-fashion.”

Going beyond simple clothing, it is an archive piece representing fashion history, and I believe it is a product with sufficient collection value for those who appreciate the world of designer Rei Kawakubo.
